Robinson Helicopter Company - World's Leading Helicopter OEM
Robinson Helicopter Company, based at Zamperini Field in Torrance, California, is a manufacturer of civilian helicopters. Robinson produces three models – the two-seat R22, the four-seat R44, both of which use Lycoming piston engines, and the five-seat R66, which uses a turbine engine.
The company was founded in 1973 by Frank Robinson, a former employee of Bell Helicopter and Hughes Helicopters. Since delivering its first helicopter in 1979, Robinson Helicopter has delivered over 13,000 aircrafts worldwide. Robinson helicopter celebrated 50 years in business in June 2023. Being a global market leader, their factory now has a production capacity of manufacturing almost 1,000 helicopters per year.
Company also produces the Robinson Helipad, a modular helipad designed for light helicopters.
R22 Helicopters
The two-seat R22 helicopter is a proven workhorse that has delivered exceptional performance in a variety of applications for over forty years. The R22 has a two-bladed rotor system which requires minimum hangar space, T-bar cyclic for easy entry and exit, and a crashworthy fuel system. An aluminum monocoque and powder-coated steel tube structure provides a lightweight, yet robust airframe while the aerodynamic fuselage optimizes airspeed and fuel economy. The R22 is powered by Lycoming’s proven O-360 engine that is derated to provide reserve power and better performance at high altitudes and in hot weather. Due to its affordability and versatility, the R22 is used the world over for flight training, livestock management, and personal transportation.
R44 Helicopters
Four-seat R44 RAVEN II and CLIPPER II helicopters are high performing, reliable, and easy to maintain. R44s have a two-bladed rotor system, T-bar cyclic, streamlined instrument panels, and a crashworthy fuel system. An aluminum monocoque and powder-coated steel tube structure provides a lightweight, yet robust airframe while the aerodynamic fuselage optimizes airspeed and fuel economy. Hydraulically boosted controls eliminate cyclic and collective feedback forces and provide responsive handling. A low tail-rotor tip speed and large cambered tail reduce flyover noise. Raven II and Clipper II helicopters are powered by Lycoming’s IO-540 fuel injected engine. The IO-540 delivers improved altitude performance, increased payload, and eliminates the need for carburetor heat.
R66 Helicopters
The five-seat R66 TURBINE and R66 TURBINE MARINE helicopters are reliable, economical and easy to maintain. R66s have a two-bladed rotor system, T-bar cyclic, hydraulically boosted controls that eliminate cyclic and collective feedback forces, and streamlined instrument panels. The R66’s spacious 300 lb capacity baggage compartment along with the powerful Rolls Royce RR300 turbine engine give operators greater utility. The lightweight RR300 engine operates on readily available Jet A fuel, delivering increased reserve power, additional payload, and improved altitude performance. The R66 meets the FAA’s current crashworthiness regulations with energy absorbing seats and a crashworthy fuel system.
